      I’m pretty sure that people don’t often eat fawn, and lambs (at least in the States), are functionally adults by the time they’re ready to be slaughtered. (Sheep develop quickly and hit puberty at under a year, unless they’ve been wethered.) Veal is another story… That said, yes, there’s a double standard. Cultural taboos are weird like that. The double standard, however, is not the issue. The issue is people knowing what they’re ingesting.

      The watchword is phenylbutazone. It’s a drug used against inflamations in animals, and is not safe for human consumtion. That was what started this entire debate, phenylbutazone found in the meat, which lead to DNA testing of the meat, which again lead to the big question of if this was allowed to pass, what other dangers are hidden in our food?
