• Jeff Greenspan

Greenspan, an advertising Creative Director and the man behind such viral projects as Letterbombing.com and Hipster Traps, is one of the guys behind TheWorldsMostExclusiveWebsite.com and may have been the first person to get turned away when it launched early on Monday, June 6.  “Technically, 10 am this morning. I tried it, and I couldn’t get in. I sent it to a few people, including Buzzfeed founder, Jonah Perretti who was the only verified user I knew - he was the first person to get in.” By 12:30 pm EST yesterday, the site had 12,000 hits.

  • As most of us common Twitter users found out, the first qualifier to get into TWMEW is being a verified user. “Anyone who wasn’t a verified user who tried to log-in was given an explanation of what a verified Twitter user is, then politely redirected to a less discriminating site,” said Greenspan. “If one were able to get in, they would be greeted by different rooms which allowed entry based on how many followers you have.” The above screenshot is what I saw when I tried to log-in with my lowly personal account.

  • So far, only four “rooms” in TWMEW have been accessed. Pictured here is the room reserved for those with at least 30 K followers (@BuzzFeed was turned away at the door). The team behind TWMEW is waiting for the non-internet famous crowd to take a deep interest. Around six o’clock ET last night, Christian Siriano (Project Runway) logged-in.

  • Mike Lacher

TWMEW creator and programmer Mike Lacher is behind such viral triumphs as The Geocities-izer and On The Bro’d, a tumblr that translates every sentence of Jack Kerouac’s On The Road into bro-speak. It will be released as a book in Spring 2012.

  • Chris Baker

TWMEW creator Chris Baker is a writer and technologist, who collaborated with Greenspan on Letterbombing.com, a subversive way to deliver a message on Facebook. His other projects include M.Night School and The Fucking Word of the Day.

  • Last, but certainly not least, Doug Loffredo is responsible for the design work that brought TWMEW together.

  • What’s next?

The TWMEW creators told BuzzFeed that there are at least four rooms that are yet to be accessed, with mostly celebrities accounting for those eligible. As it stands now, we can only wait and see if the upper echelon of verified users will take an interest, and also wonder: Will Howard Stern and Lady Gaga start talking to each other inside The World’s Most Exclusive Website? “The bigger take away is that this could serve as a meeting place for influential people from all walks of life,” says Greenspan. “And we as the Twitter audience could get to be a fly on the wall for the conversations and new friendships that might be born from the meetings inside the site.”
