There is very little societal sanctity of marriage anymore, if there was we would not have such a high divorce rate. I know a lot of couples who have been together, both gay and straight, much longer than most hetero and/or Christian marriages last. And many so called religious politicians have cheated and been caught at it, so to scream about the sanctity of marriage in the face of all that is ridiculous. I am old enough to remember when interracial marriages were not only frowned upon, but the family was for all intents and purposes shunned. Now it is commonplace. I think that anyone in a committed relationship should be afforded all the benefits of marriage, whether gay or strait, and it is not anyone but the two people who are committed to each other’s business.
