Michael M. 3 years agoAlthough I don’t think the bumper sticker is particularly funny, it is obviously employed primarily as a joke. And I cringe pre-emptively at whatever vapid responses this may get spouting some tired crap about racism. Of course there are the fringe nuts who want him dead. But I dare say that there are just as many nuts on the other side who wanted Bush and/or Cheney dead and still do. Bear in mind this anecdotal illustration of the absurdity of the double standard:
During the run-up to the 2008 election, a California homeowner hanged Sarah Palin in effigy. In response, a neighbor hanged Barack Obama in effigy. Hanging Palin was characterized by the media as boldly artistic political speech. Meanwhile, the hanging of Obama in effigy elicited endless hisses of racism and even resulted in the homeowner being questioned by authorities about any plans he might have to attempt an assassination.

Susan W. 3 years agoI’m from the deep south and a female. The hanging of either is in terrible taste, but the hanging of Obama is a reference to the treatment of the black person and Klan. IF your buddies disagree, use the internet for actual history & not other’s opinion.
