Show me a public atheist trying to “shove” his views down your throat. I don’t mean by that that he/she has the audacity of expressing their opinions, but that they are actively trying to force you to become an atheist, or to force others who don’t share their views to advocate for their views? You won’t find a single one. And no, Dawkins doesn’t qualify. People who complain about atheists being “assholes”, are really just complaining about them expressing their views, and being out of the closet. No one screams “asshole” when a religious person just says “I believe in Jesus”, do they? So why is it being an asshole to say “I don’t believe in Jesus”?

There are people who can be assholes about their atheism. Just like people can be assholes about anything. But atheists have not organized powerful groups around denying people rights and misinforming an entire generation about science and history.  Basically, if you don’t believe in God, you’re not going to believe that you have a God-given duty to tell everybody else how to live their lives.  I think it’s a false equivalence to say, “atheists too!”

Yeah, because you see so many atheists standing on street corners screaming about nothing.
