Sandy Turns Obama’s Florida Trip Into Most Expensive Pizza Delivery In History

Obama fails to beat the storm in Florida. Only one rally in last four days, as Michelle and Joe Biden stay on the stump.

ORLANDO, Fla. — President Obama arrived in Orlando Sunday evening with plans to rally with Bill Clinton at 10 am on Monday morning.

The plan did not survive contact with Hurricane Sandy.

The White House cancelled the Florida event today, setting up a situation where Obama may have to suspend even more campaign events in the campaign’s final eight days, depending on the severity of the weather.

“Due to Hurricane Sandy, President Obama will not attend today’s campaign event in Florida,” the campaign said in a statement released at 7:38 am. “The event will move forward with President Bill Clinton at 10:00 AM EDT.”

Obama did, however, manage to make an unscheduled stop to speak with volunteers and deliver pizza to staffers on Sunday night in what journalist Hans Nichols described on Twitter as “the most expensive” pizza delivery in history, referencing the high costs it took to fly down to Florida, stay for just over 12 hours, and not accomplish the purpose of the trip.

The cancellation in Orlando means that Obama has only attended one campaign rally in the last four days, while the original schedule had called for multiple events in swing states over the next forty eight hours.

While Obama heads back to Washington to show his commander-in-chiefness, other members of Team Obama aren’t letting the storm slow them down.

Besides Clinton’s Orlando stop, Vice President Biden is heading to Ohio today; Michelle Obama is in Iowa; and Dr. Jill Biden has events in Colorado.

UPDATE: The White House has also now cancelled Obama’s campaign event in Green Bay, Wisconsin, which was scheduled for Tuesday. That will bring the tally of holding only one rally in fives days.

Meanwhile, the White House press traveling press corps, which followed the president down to Florida late Sunday night on the campaign charter plane, is stuck in Orlando overnight.

Heh. “Show,” is a very apropos work to describe Obama’s “commander-in-chiefness.” It’s kind of like when the car salesperson tries to convince you the pleather seats have a terrific “leathery” feel.

That’s actually the exact way to describe Romney’s entire campaign. Show. Salesmanship. Inauthentic.

@fredomcfly I think Romney is quite authentic in saying Obama’s plans have not worked & will not work. Also Obama failed to push an economic growth program when he had a D House and filibuster-proof Senate or to compromise when the Rs took the House.  He and Harry Reid haven’t tried to get a budget passed in 2 years. I’d say that’s a “no show” president. We need better.

Obama did not have a filibuster-proof but for a matter of months. So, that argument is bogus. The only time we really got anything of worth done was during that time, though, seeing as the GOTP was hell-bent on blocking any progress. That is reality, not your dreamy fantasy scenario in which it was Obama’s policies (many of which didn’t even come to fruition, thanks to you-know-who) that have failed. We were heading for a depression. Did we get there? Nope. Did the stimulus turn things around? Yes. Did we need more of it to take affect than we originally anticipated, as well as a jobs bill, etc? Yes. Did we get those things? No. There is plenty of money from that stimulus that was never even disbursed. Was it all down to Obama? Absolutely not. Romney was not a good governor, so why would anyone think he’d be any better as POTUS? Because he ran a business, loading companies up with debt + fees, often costing jobs/benefits or the businesses themselves? If making money in the business world were all it took to qualify, we should elect Trump. Romney is as authentic as a 3 dollar bill. Or as Paul Ryan’s “generous” forcing of himself into a photo op at a soup kitchen to “wash dishes” on camera. Is he a “severe conservative” or a “Born Again Moderate Centrist”? Is he a Bipartisan Champ or the Governor who relished vetoing the legislation put forth by his Dem legislature + actively campaigned against them? Romney is a flim-flam man + his tax plan + jobs plan are just about as false as they come, mathematically + otherwise. We do need better, which is why I am voting against Mitt Romney + every member of the Party of No that I can on Nov 6 in favor of parties that are actually willing to work together toward something for all of us, not just work against the POTUS for their own selfish party agenda. #Forward Obama/Biden 2012
