Over the years, Degrassi has had more than its fair share of tragedy. Many characters have left the show, but there are only a few that are gone forever.

4. Campbell "Cam" Saunders

Cam was a hockey player and a love interest of Maya's. He struggles with depression, loneliness, and identity before hanging himself on school grounds.

3. Adam Torres

Adam was Degrassi's first transgender character. He was texting his girlfriend Becky when the van he was driving hit a tree. He passes away from his injuries during surgery.

2. Rick Murray

On the day Rick died, he'd been humiliated on television during an academic competition. He's then misdirected by Spinner and Jay and, in his anger, brings a gun to school. After shooting Jimmy Brooks, Rick dies when his gun goes off during a struggle.

1. James Tiberius "JT" Yorke

Formerly known as the class clown, JT was murdered by a Lakehurst student during a house party at Emma's. He was on his way to tell Liberty, his ex-girlfriend, how he felt about her.
