The story of a destructive, all-female adventurers guild, Rat Queens is the perfect comic series to adapt into an adult cartoon. Here's why you should get pumped.

It's Got Four Butt-Kicking, Booze-Guzzling, Foul Mouthed Heroines

The Rat Queens - composed of elven mage Hannah, human cleric Dee, dwarf warrior Violet, and smidgen thief Betty - are a far cry from your typical animated heroines. They're reckless, rabble-rousing, and all around free-wheeling, but they're not just your standard "strong female characters". The Queens are diverse, well-rounded characters with their own strengths, weaknesses and agency. They're the heroes of their story, and they'd be hard-pressed to let you forget it.

It's A Loving Parody of the Medieval Fantasy Genre

Rat Queens is set in a medieval fantasy world filled with orcs, mages, guilds, and Lovecraftian squid gods. It also hilariously lampshades and subverts all of those things. Whether it's Hannah using her runes as a cellphone, or Dee, the cleric, declaring herself to be a staunch athiest, nothing is quite as you'd expect in the Rat Queens' world.

If the Rat Queens show turns out to be a success, it could create a jump-in point for more female-led comic adaptations, animated or otherwise.
