New "Star Trek" Series Coming 2017!

Star Trek fans rejoice! CBS has a new TV series in the works!

CBS Television Studios has announced that a new "Star Trek" TV series will be coming to their streaming service, CBS All Access, in January 2017. The series will have the classic signature themes, while exploring new worlds with new characters.

The new series will be produced by CBS Television Studios and Alex Kurtzman's Secret Hideout, with Kurtzman serving as the series executive producer. Having co-wrote Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, the series looks to be in good hands. With no Star Trek series since Enterprise's conclusion in 2005, this series has excellent timing.

David Stapf, President, CBS Television Studios:

There is no better time to give 'Star Trek' fans a new series than on the heels of the original show's 50th anniversary celebration. Everyone here has great respect for this storied franchise, and we're excited to launch its next television chapter in the creative mind and skilled hands of Alex Kurtzman, someone who knows this world and its audience intimately.

The rebooted Star Trek films introduced the Trek universe to new and younger audiences. A whole new series could further expand the fandom, but will it satisfy seasoned Star Trek fans?
