The author writes like someone who already decided she knows what is morally best despite centuries upon centuries of human experimentation with everything under the sun and the universal conclusion that sodomy is immoral and corruptive and marriage is man-woman only. She writes like someone embittered by her country. She sees everything in terms of power plays, nothing in terms of Faith. Who is she to judge the Orthodox Church? And who is she to say that no one lives core values anymore in Russia? When was the last time Miriam Elder visited Verkhoyansk? Has she walked in their shoes? A talented rhetorician she might be, but all that flair does not cover up the emptiness of her heart.
