A 9-Year-Old Boy With Cerebral Palsy Won Everton's Goal Of The Month Contest And The Whole Thing Is Amazing

    Well, this is just lovely.

Last month, Dave Shaw posted a video of his Everton-supporting son George going through some football drills.

The video of George, who has cerebral palsy, was widely shared and eventually reached Everton star Gerard Deulofeu, whose replica shirt the 9-year-old was wearing.

The Spain winger was touched by the footage, and invited George and his family to be his guests for Everton's Premier League game against Swansea on 24 January.

During a half-time training drill, George scored a goal at the Gwladys Street End, to loud cheers from the Goodison Park crowd.

After the game George met up with Deulofeu and even showed off some Spanish he had learned.

That wasn't the end of the story however, as George's strike was then entered into the club's goal-of-the-month competition.

Despite being up against some stiff competition from full internationals, George won 86% of the public vote, with England star Ross Barkley a distant second on 6%.

To top it all off, George has also been invited to present the trophy for Everton's goal of the season at the club's end-of-season awards in May.

"It's just great seeing all the support I've had off my families and friends," said George as he was presented with the goal-of-the-month award by Everton boss Roberto Martinez ahead of a pre-game press conference.

"I never thought I would get a trophy, it's just amazing having something to show people."

Martinez said George's story had been "fantastic to follow".

"The players have been talking about him non-stop," he said "He inspires us ahead of Saturday."

George also had a chance to meet Barkley and fellow Everton players Kevin Mirallas and Aaron Lennon.

George is now meeting @RBarkley20, @AaronLennon12 and Kevin Mirallas - the 3 players he beat in the GOTM vote!

As George's dad said, "nothing will stop him".

    Congratulations, George!
