Christopher Hitchens tried his best to tell the truth as he saw it, not because he read it in a book or was taught how to see the world at a young age. He lived life with a clear vision and he tried to make sense of it, without pretext or delusion. I didn't agree with everything he said or stood for but I did respect him for not backing down and letting the religious right feel they were truly justified. We are still living in a time where religion is in control of much of our lives. We shouldn't forget that and we should admire someone who had the courage to stand up and face it instead of trying to ignore it and hope it just goes away.

Certainly do not agree with everything he said but I loved the comment on dogs and cats and overrated things. Might have to check out God Is Not Great.

Love him or hate him. At least he formed his OWN opinions, and had the balls to voice them. His catty wit will be missed by many.

I enjoyed Hitchens' writing the most when the subject was literature. Whatever you think of his politics, his prose was beautiful.

First I liked him, then, during the Bush administration, I didn't like him. He became an apologist. Then, as he grew increasingly vocal against religion, I became a fan again. If only I could use the language so. Adios Hitch.

I loved his book “God is not great”. He makes a good case for not blindly following faith.

I was never offended by his athiest views. He was thought provoking and made me think about why I believe in God. One of my favorite Hitchens quotes is:
“Afghanistan was the first country bombed out of a stone age.”

I am grateful for the man, if for nothing else than being the one to shine the flashlight into the fetid rathole that is Henry Kissinger. As for his take on organised religion, I never read a single thing he wrote or saw a thing he said that wasn't, IMHO, true.

He went to the grave claiming the war in Iraq was justified.
