Madonna Takes A Swipe At “Reductive” Lady Gaga On “20/20”
“Look it up.” Two days after tugging on Lady Gaga’s wig in an interview with Newsweek, Madonna went and snatched off the whole damn thing on last night’s “20/20,” the first time she publicly addressed the issue of similarities between Gaga’s “Born This Way” and her song, “Express Yourself.”
Asked by Cynthia McFadden if she considers Gaga a copycat, Madonna said, “I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. Sometimes I think it’s amusing and flattering and well-done,” before adding, “Obviously, I’ve influenced her.”
Madonna also revealed that, upon hearing “Born This Way” for the first time, she thought to herself, “That sounds very familiar.” McFadden then asked whether she was annoyed by the similarities between the two songs.
“It feels reductive,” she replied. “Look it up.”

Why is she speaking about it now? The song came out quite a while ago. This seems so petty. I don’t find Gaga’s “reductive,” just vaguely and unintentionally influenced. The similarities are not so blatant that getting catty about it is justified. It just makes Madonna look like she’s sad because she’s old and this is a last-ditch attempt to be relevant. Take it as a compliment and move on, old hag. And for the record, I think both songs suck.
