Apple’s new iPad Air is not only another pretty tablet. It scores terribly high on benchmark performance tests, consistent with Primate Labs. The iPad Air’s A7 processor is running at 1.4 GHz, 100 MHz quicker than the iPhone 5s’ A7 processor. it isn’t clear if the iPad Air processor runs at a better speed because of a bigger battery (providing a lot of power), a bigger chassis (providing higher cooling), or some combination of the 2. I expect the new iPad mini’s A7 processor can run at 1.4 ghz further. The iPad Air is over 80th quicker than the iPad (4th Generation), near the 2x increase promised by Apple. The iPad Air is over 5x quicker than the iPad 2, however is just $100 costlier. I don’t perceive why Apple kept the iPad 2 around, particularly at a $399 worth purpose. What market are they targeting?
