Well, let's ask Jesus, who according to Mark 12:28-30 answered the question “Which commandment is the most important of all?” By proclaiming that “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” As for the theory that “Mr.” Beck is in fact criticizing not volunteerism (which he readily reminds us “is working for FREE” God forbid, see Matthew 5:41 for the origin of the phrase “going the extra mile”) but rather statism, I would ask, what's wrong with a little social cohesion? Not to apply analytical skills to the issue or anything, but Beck is specifically complaining that the networks are actively pushing an issue that the president just “happens” to be interested in - not that volunteering is a bad thing to do. I'm sure that many people screeching here would be completely beyond outraged if the networks had “conveniently” devoted an entire week's worth of programming to an issue that Former Pres Bush just “happened” to want to push at some point. The issue that Beck is making as about INDOCTRINATION. Just because something is a good idea, doesn't mean that it is a good idea for the GOVERNMENT to be telling us to do, by influencing what goes into TV shows.

I am not a violent person. I have been in two fights in my entire life and one was a “schoolyard scuffle”… That said… when I hear/see this strange little man I am filled with a rage I have never felt before and a sincere need to PUNCH HIS FACE.

Wow so it's not volunteering because you're rewarded? Umm no. So going to disneyland for a day is an incentive but is not paying someone to be a volunteer. I volunteer often and I am rewarded too—I receive experience, networking, and volunteer days where we get together and go out to eat or just have fun. Does that mean I'm not a volunteer? I think not.

Unfortunately he's forgot the meaning of volunteerism. Most socialist countries declare you have to do this for the greater of the whole. Which volunteering does not.
