The Christian People's Alliance Says God Is Angry At Marriage Equality

The group's leader says the UK floods could "possibly" have been caused by God's anger over same-sex marriage.

The leader of the Christian People's Alliance (CPA) has said that recent flooding in the UK could have been caused by God's anger over the new legalisation of same-sex marriage.

Sid Cordle explained yesterday that the floods could have been an expression of God's anger: "A lot of Christians believe that God is angry over gay marriage and God can actually show that anger."

The CPA is an active political party which is hoping to elect its first MEP in the European elections next week. It's fielding candidates across London and the south-east.

Speaking in an interview with the BBC's Daily Politics, its leader was asked about the controversy over a UKIP councillor, David Silvester, who blamed same-sex marriage for the winter storms. The councillor was later expelled from the party.

Cordle said the way Silvester blamed the floods on marriage equality was "completely wrong", but that "all Christians believe that God does and can do things with nature."

He also believes Christian voters who no longer support the Conservative Party are turning to UKIP: "There are an enormous number of Christians that have left the Conservative Party over the issue of same-sex marriage. Sadly too many of them have gone to UKIP."

The CPA campaigns for Britain to leave the EU, the right for Christian doctors to refuse to carry out abortions and traditional marriage.
