2. A British tax payer earning £30,000 a year sees just £38 of their annual income tax spent on overseas aid

That's less than the cost of a pint of beer every month! Spending it on aid instead saves millions of lives - and inches off our waistlines ;-)

3. Progress is being made - the number of people living on the equivalent of less than £1 a day was halved over 20 years

In 1990 43% of the world’s population lived on less than £1 a day and 20 years later in 2010 the figure was 21%.

UK aid gives a helping hand to people who most need it and real bang for your buck, especially in the fight to make malaria no more!

4. Since 2000, UK aid has helped cut child deaths from malaria in Africa in half, saving more than 3 million young lives - that’s the same as 3 times the population of Birmingham!

Who says progress in development can’t be quick and impressive!

5. The UK Government department that deals with aid (DFID) came 2nd in a global ranking of how well donors countries tell the public what money is being spent where.
