1. Elop Confirms Nokia Tablets are Underway
Nokia chief executive Stephen Elop has given the clearest indication yet that the Finnish mobile phone stalwart will soon make its assault on the booming tablet computer market, and a windows-based device is the most likely starting point.
“It is the case that in the months and years ahead, you will see us broaden out the portfolio, which means pushing to lower and lower price points, in some cases smaller form factors and so forth,” Mr Elop said.
4. The Third Spot
If you have seen that tweet, you might have also learned that as of the moment, Nokia is now trying to get the third spot in the smartphone market, a market they once dominated. In the interview with AFR, Elop mentioned what Nokia can do that Blackberry cannot:
They are certainly buying the hardware and operating system, but they are also buying the full range of applications that may be available for the device. They are buying the cloud based services that are required to make this a complete experience, like mapping, navigation and music.
