What Not To Do At A Job Interview For BuzzFeed

I had an interview at BuzzFeed for a illustrator/Writer position a little ways back, I haven't heard from them, and I think I know why....

1. Don't dress like you escaped from a sexy prison.

My first mistake was wearing something that I thought looked "hip" enough to fit in at BuzzFeed, but maybe looked more like I was on my way to a "P.Diddy All Jail Stripes Party."

2. Don't create a presentation that you think is hilarious, but is maybe too informal...

This was to portray my very serious time working in puppetry.

4. Don't forget pertinent information about yourself.

They asked me what my favorite websites to go to are, I completely blanked and said "...Buzzfeed." Even though there are many sites I like to visit.

5. Don't try to show off your Photoshop skills by bringing a picture you made of Sophia Petrillo with mini cinnamon buns for hair.

I thought it would be a good idea to combine a couple of my favorite things to show my mastery of Photoshop, but I probably just disrespected the Golden Girls and breakfast baked goods at the same time.

6. Don't forget to show your portfolio.

I spent hours compiling my artwork onto an ipad portfolio app (sample pages from a book I did above) and then in all the excitement I forgot to show it! If anyone out there want's to see it, it's at LorynBrantz.com :[

7. Don't, forget, your, purse.

Yep.

8. Under no circumstance write a follow up letter that includes a drawing of a cat.

I followed up with a thank you e-mail that said, "here's a drawing of a cat saying "thanks!" in his native tongue!" Seemed funny at the time, and they love cats at BuzzFeed......right?? Right!?

9. Don't make a follow up "what not to do" list on Buzzfeed.

But, I couldn't resist.

10. Learn from your mistakes.

Here's a cat saying, "all in all everyone at Buzzfeed was really nice to me, and it was fun to see the office, thanks BuzzFeed!" in his native tongue.
