20 LGBT Filipinos Describe What Freedom Means To Them

    "Not having to hide anymore."

    To celebrate LGBT Pride Month and Philippine Independence Day, BuzzFeed Philippines went around Manila and asked: "As part of the LGBT community, what does freedom mean to you?"

    1. "Being able to introduce to my family whoever I love, w/o fear of being disowned."

    2. "Freedom is my freedom to worship Aretha Franklin (w/o discrimination)!

    3. "Walking down the street fearless and worry-free*!"

    4. "Removing your bra after a long day!!!"

    5. "Being able to pee in women's bathrooms without fear of getting kicked out!"

    6. "Having safe spaces for women who love women!"

    7. "Being able to hold hands with my man in public without being guilty of anything."

    8. "When there is SOCIAL EQUALITY (land for the farmers, just wages, home for the homeless, education for the youth)."

    9. "Realizing that we don't need to fit in!"

    10. "Being able to love whoever I want. Being able to reserve more closet space for clothes."

    11. "Being financially able, socially accepted, and emotionally stable. #FightForLove"

    12. "Being gay and not having to explain why."

    13. "Being protected in the workplace from discrimination and with access to benefits."

    14. "Freedom is not silencing conflicts but continuously discussing them."

    15. "Freedom is not just doing what you want. It's defining what you want."
