The “orange cylinders” on the roofs are chimneys

Looking at the superior version of the image in the Microsoft HD viewer (click the “HD” link above upper-right corner of image, download and install plug-in), there are rows of orange cylinders on the top of houses and along walls most anywhere you zoom in—they look to be vent pipes or something, but it's really weird that they are so many of them, everywhere, and they are all the same color. The answer will probably make me feel stupid, but does anyone know what in the world those things are????
