In parts of Ohio they say Yins. No joke. Although, that spelling is no doubt wrong. It sounds like “You Ones” but really really fast. I think this is proof that the English language is desperately in need of an official word for 2nd person plural.

@Peaches: Au Contrair… in Texas it is “ya'll” as a contraction of “ya all”.

In some parts of MA you may hear “yous guyses”

I'm not the first to say it: here in Kentucky we say y'all . And I grew up near Pittsburgh, and there they say yinz . Funnily enough, I've adopted y'all , and you (or all y'all ) will never catch me saying yinz , except in jest. I grew up saying you guys (as in “Wait up, you guys!” whined at my older brothers and cousins).

I say y'all in Oregon, because the English language desperately needs a unique 2nd-person plural pronoun. It also allows for the 2nd-person plural possessive form “y'alls,” which other contenders such as “youse” and yiz” do not.

I should remind you that Northern Virginia (Washington DC) and Virginia are two seperate states…Richmond represent!

“Youz” is also a Jersey/Philly thing.

I'm a 1st gen American, born & raised New Yorker, never been to the South and I say you guys as well as y'all. No clue why though.

we say y'all in VT…not that most of the USA remembers that we're not a part of Canada…

Its impossible to lump ALL of California into “you guys”.

This is BS. I grew up in Alabama, so I am totally guilty of saying y'all all the time. But, they also said it in California when I lived there, Washington state when I lived there, and Ohio when I lived there.

I've lived in the south my entire life, and I hate when I let “y'all” slip out. Ew.

Depending on where you are and who you talk to in VA, DC, MD, WV, and KY, you could hear you all, y'all, or you guys. I'm in MD and use both y'all and you guys.

There is a whole survey associated with this , and other maps for what people call “soda”, “shotgun”, “u-turns” and so forth. Of course they can't use those words in the questions, so they end up being pretty humorous. Probably the most famous thing to come out of UWM.
