University of Maryland Students Petition for a Snow Day
"Weather conditions are too dangerous for us to walk to class. There have already been a few accidents and local schools have already cancelled. Delayed opening is simply not enough."
Facing treacherous weather conditions, University of Maryland students have taken action and are petitioning the University to close school March 4th, through online petitioning platform, change.org.
The petition, started by student Victor Chen, has garnered thousands of signatures within a few short hours.
Many local and campus roads and sidewalks are still covered in snow and ice. These conditions are only expected worsen overnight as temperatures drop. As the university is made up largely of commuter students, petitioners are asking President Loh to reconsider his previously announced delay in exchange for a full day off.
