Fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent died today in Paris at age 71. The designer who retired in 2002 had been suffering from a long illness. The man who popularized the beatnik look, tight pants, thigh high boots, and the tuxedo suit for women once said: “You have to regard every fashion with humor, to be above it, believe in it enough to give the impression of living it but not too much, so that you keep your freedom.”
