POLITICS BUZZ – French-Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt was among 15 hostages rescued from the FARC a ‘Marxist-inspired’ insurgency in Columbia. Betancourt, who had been held captive for six years was rescued by Columbian soldiers posing as members of the FARC. She has said she will now work tirelessly to help free other hostages.

STYLE BUZZ – Twenty-year-old model Ruslana Korshunova fell to her death from her downtown New York apartment building yesterday in an apparent suicide. Known as “The Russian Rapunzel” Korshunova — originally of Almaty, Kazakhstan — had been featured in ads for Marc Jacobs, DKNY, Vera Wang and Christian Dior. Her tragic death seems to have come as an absolute surprise to friends and family, who claimed she seemed to be “on top of the world,” though some reports suggest that she had shown her distress in posts on a social networking site.

CULTURE BUZZ – R.E.M front man Michael Stipe is having an art show at the Manhattan Rogan boutique. Stipe created an elaborate window installation involving hundreds of cardboard alarm-clock boxes spilling into the street. The art show also includes “Relics” a series of bronze sculptures of cassette tapes, Polaroid cameras and other technological objects that have recently become obsolete.

STYLE BUZZ – Richard Chai is the latest designer to release a diffusion line as part of Target’s Go International collection. The collection- available in August of 2008-has fashion blogs are all weighing in. STYLE BUZZ – Designer Vivienne Westwood raised quite a few eyebrows by employing Roma Gypsy models during her Milan runway shows. The models were styled to look “rough, stylish and hardened” and sported gold teeth and medallions. The theme of the show was “tolerance” but Westwood has been accused of romanticizing the Roma lifestyle as well as disrespecting the traditions of Romanipen by having the men model in their underwear.

TECH BUZZ – Chrysler has announced that they will be including internet access in their cars beginning this year. In an attempt to seem relevant and lure younger drivers, Chrysler is adding a system called UConnect that will allow everyone in the car to check e-mail, download music, play games and upload photos from an SD card directly to Flickr. If cell phones made car phones obsolete, then with the development of hand-held technology - is this really necessary?
