The personal decisions of women about their health and livelihood and futures BEFORE a fetus can even feel pain =/= a family pet being killed out of spite. The decision to be responsible and have an abortion when you know you cannot support a child or carry a fetus to term (physically, mentally, financially, emotionally, whatever the case may be) =/= NOT THE SAME AS KILLING AN ESTABLISHED BEING IN THE WORLD OUT OF SPITE. And you're ignoring the point that if abortion was not legal, women would find a way to do it anyway (as they have been doing since the beginning of time) and end up sick/sterile/dead. Making that a poor argument in the first place. Your cat/little girl drowning in a river comparison is weak, by the way. There is a HUGE DIFFERENCE between a non-established being that has no sense of pain (until after the cut-off date in which one can legally get an abortion) or connections to the world (a fetus) and a creature that already exists within society, such as a little girl that can very much feel fear, pain, misery, et cetera. It's not a 'weird values issue'. You're completely missing the point and drawing parallels for no particular reason. They might hate this 'liberal' for a host of different reasons, such as wanting to make gay marriage legal, wanting to raise taxes on the rich, whatever.

I'm not in favor of this guy by any means and he sure as hell won't be getting my vote (I'm a pro-choice lesbian - he literally has nothing on the planet to offer me as a citizen), but it was a miscarriage- and it was tough for their family, since they really wanted the kid.
