These Women Are Getting People To Strip Off To Change Our Perception Of Beauty

    If beauty is only skin deep then we should show some more skin.

    I am what's underneath is a documentary project created by Elisa Goodkind and her daughter Lily Mandlebaum.

    The aim of their documentary is to give a platform to women and men of all backgrounds and cultures and to celebrate their unique beauty.

    The women raised $135,000 to support the film with a Kickstarter and a hashtag campaign #Iamwhatsnderneath.

    Until the film is released next year, Lily and Elsa are releasing videos of their subjects revealing what's underneath.

    The videos feature subjects talking about themselves and their body image, whilst removing items of clothing. Here singer Stacy Barthe discusses her complex relationship with her body.

    The project features a range of participants, whether these be members of the LGBT community, elderly or disabled people, or those who have suffered from mental and physical disorders.

    iO Tillett Wright spoke about the struggle to balance society's preconceptions of transgender people and her own confidence.

    Another subject is Gail Chovan, a breast cancer survivor.

    DJ Louie XIV used the project to talk about how he came to terms with his sexuality.

    Monica Canilao is an artist and abuse survivor.

    I am what's underneath also works alongside news stories and key events. In February, the site marked Black History Month by showcasing a range of black identities, and supporting #BlackLivesMatter.

    All stories are on the Style Like U website. I am what's underneath is due for release next year.
