kingmonkey 11 months ago‘Try to’ and ‘try and’ are American and British variants, are they not? I believe both are correct in their own spheres.

kingmonkey 11 months agoHow about if we look at ‘try’ as a generic term for ‘exert effort’? In this case, I am going to ‘exert effort’ [in the pursuit of my goal— eating a cookie], and then the result of this effort will be that I am eating a cookie. Thus, I try and eat a cookie.

kristenr7 11 months agoNo, because what are you trying if you “try and___?” Try egg salad and save the world? No, you are trying TO save the world. It’s incorrect in proper English, regardless of your position on the planet.
