This is just one of the best pieces I’ve ever read on Buzzfeed. It was so informative and great intelligent piece to give a perspective to people who otherwise would not have that opportunity. I studied African American Studies in college as well as Sociology and this reminds me a lot of the papers we would be assigned to read that became what I read in pleasure, I appreciate the opportunity to have my world view expanded. As a sociologist there is one thing I know, and that’s that popular trends in hair and clothing are extremely important to showing one’s personal belief in their role in society or their urge to contrast themselves from the society they were born into. Also as white girl I honestly say I’m jealous that my hair will never be able to do that, my hair is limp and sheet like, no curl, no personality, I dye it to have it match my mood, but I think black natural hair is some of the most beautiful in the world, afros braids dreads or twists I’m always in awe of the beautiful styles I will never be able to emulate, like the comment in the paper suggested.
