Well, that was a waste of time…

Mr. Cohen’s right— too many people sing this song. And faaar too many karaoke tv show contestant-types sing this song. It’s a good song, but it’s not even Cohen’s best song. It’s just one of those songs that people who don’t really listen to music much latch on to once somebody famous does a completely over the top version of it, like ‘I Will Always Love You’ or ‘When a Man Loves a Woman’. I first heard it back in the early nineties on the fantastic ‘I’m Your Fan’ tribute album (which everyone should immediately get as it is THE greatest tribute album ever recorded(well, to me anyway)) and always loved it, but certainly not more so than ‘Suzanne’, ‘So Long Marianne’, ‘Bird on a Wire’ or ‘Sisters of Mercy’, which are my personal favorites. I guess i’m glad that people like it, but i can’t help but think that most of them learn about music through American Idol, or buy one album a year at Wal-Mart. Make of that what you will.
In #9, do either the girl or the grandma realize what that pose is simulating?
My favorite was the woman (!) who’s main concern was healthcare going for Romney. I’m amazed every election cycle how many people claim to be undecided this far into the campaign! What, do they live in Amish country?
Yo La Tengo! My favorite band from the nineties (they’re still great, too).
What if you’re too poor to afford cable? Do you want all those kids who are poor through no fault of their own to go without ANY educational programming? No Sesame Street for the young ones, or Nova for the older ones? When i was a kid, we didn’t have much money, and didn’t have cable (and yes, both of my parents worked their asses off), and i am so thankful that we had PBS in our lives. When did this country start not giving a shit for those less fortunate than us???
Almost all the money that that extremely small percentage of our taxes goes to The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which in turn gives it to many different sources, which includes local public stations and networks, which then buys programming from NPR, PRI and PBS, among many other sources.
Being an asshole is a choice.
I’d have sexual relations with her, if you know what i mean. You go girl!
Just another reason to not watch the oscars.
