10 Questions We Want Answered In "Orange Is The New Black" Season 2

Season one ended with a pretty big cliffhanger, but there was a lot that went on before the final confrontation. With an ensemble cast of characters you can't help but love, there's a lot of story lines to play out in season 2. Here are some big questions we're eagerly awaiting the answers to. Spoilers for season 1 and some for season 2 (based on casting decisions we already know about).

    1. What will happen to Chapman?

Let's get the most obviously one out of the way first: the big climax of the season is the cliffhanger ending, where Chapman cracks under the pressure of all her relationships falling apart and unleashes her anger on Doggett. Obviously this will have serious repercussions - at the very minimum, she'll be in SHU for a long time. We also got a glimpse of psych through Pennsatucky's time there and Sue's description. Was that foreshadowing for what will happen to Piper? And more importantly, now that her fiance and her girlfriend have cut her off, will she even care about getting out?

    2. How will Pennsatucky react?

Before she went into vengeance mode, we saw some cracks in Pennsatucky's faith. Will getting beaten by Chapman despite believing God would protect her cause Doggett to leave her religion behind completely? We know Taryn Manning has signed on as a series regular for next year, so it's pretty much guaranteed she'll survive and have an even bigger role in what's to come. Could the fact that she makes it renew her faith even further? No matter what, there must be a change coming in her personality as the result of such serious injury.

    3. Where is Alex going?

If you listen to any Orange-related news, you know Laura Prepon hasn't signed on to be a series regular in season 2. While this doesn't rule her out as continuing to appear for the remainder of the series, it will certainly shift her out of the role as the biggest supporting character. The most apparent possibilities are that she either gets out or she dies. She could luck out with an appeal, leaving behind the woman she turned in as the ultimate retribution. She could also have a rekindling for her feelings and go after Doggett in revenge and ultimately lose the fight. Or she could just fade into the background; with Chapman breaking things off with her, she doesn't serve a critical role anymore. She could just settle into a new relationship with Nichols and disappear from Chapman's life. Regardless, hopefully it doesn't mean her complete exit from the series.

    4. How will Red and Pornstache's feud play out when he returns?

Perhaps the biggest theme in Orange is karma, and Red felt it heavily by the end of season 1 after trying to use Daya's pregnancy for her own purposes. Mendez was only suspended and Caputo removed Red as head of the kitchen, which destroyed the immense power she held over the other inmates. Her half-baked plan to frame Mendoza also failed and caused her to lose one of her few remaining allies. Perhaps after both falling from their positions and spending some time apart, Pornstache and Red will realize they have similar goals and end up working together to get the smuggling back on track?

    5. What will happen when Daya has Bennett's baby?

Daya won't be able to hide her pregnancy for much longer, so hopefully the plan to frame Mendez will succeed. Presumably once she has the baby and comes back to prison, it will fall on Bennett to secretly take care of their child. Will he be up to that task? Will Mendez be able to put the pieces together to figure out Bennett is the father? Given how low he was willing to go in his feud with Red, we can only imagine what he would do to Bennett.

    6. What will Miss Claudette be like after SHU?

After feeling betrayed by Chapman, then losing her appeal, Claudette breaks down and attacks Fischer, resulting in severe punishment. Since she was a regular in season 1 it's safe to assume she'll return in season 2. Now more than ever, she and Chapman are in the same position - they've lost everyone they love and they've taken out the ensuing anger on another person. Will this common ground allow them to reconcile the tension caused by the radio show? And will Claudette continue to try to be with Baptiste now that she knows she's not getting out?

    7. Will Poussey and Taystee's friendship really be the same?

They seemed to be back to normal at the end of the season, with Taystee saying she'd rather be somewhere she knows how to survive and has Poussey to support her. Danielle Brooks was promoted to a series regular for season 2, so presumably more screen time for Taystee means a deep exploration of their relationship. It's likely Taystee will start to question whether she really wanted to come back after the rush of seeing her friends again wears off. As Miss Claudette points out, she's a smart girl - stacking books in the law library won't keep her occupied forever.

    8. What's next for Crazy Eyes?

Sue and Piper come to an understanding towards the end of the season, only to have it completely counteracted by the story Larry tells on the radio show. Sue has started to build some self-awareness after her discussion with Chapman, so season 2 will likely show her reflecting more on how she interacts with the other inmates. Perhaps she and Alex will start to become closer - they're both somewhat outcast from any other group and they've both been pushed away by Chapman. Either way, hopefully Sue finds someone she can connect to that won't hurt her, since she has a good heart.

    9. Is Larry coming back?

Larry is the only real connection between Litchfield and the outside world. True, there's Polly and there's Piper's family who will probably want to know what's going on following the fight and Piper's ostensible consequences, but Larry has been the only consistent conduit for all that. Despite him leaving Piper, it probably won't be the last we see of him.

    10. Are we going to meet the warden?

It seemed we were coming closer to actually getting the warden on screen when the Pornstache rape case escalated up the chain, but so far he's still a mysterious unseen character. Will that remain for the rest of the series with Figueroa serving as his only representation, or will we eventually meet him?
