Chevy was attempting to host the national version of the LA-based music show “New Wave Theater.” The original host, Peter Ivers, was murdered months before and Chase, a friend of Ivers (who wrote the LAdy In The Radiator song for the movie Eraserhead) offered to host the pilot-version of the new show.  You can read more about the whole thing in this book — In Heaven Everything Is Fine
