The 18 Worst Things For Left-Handed People
I can no longer be silent on the daily oppression of the left-handed community! Hear our pain, world!
1. Spiral Notebooks
Hurts the side of your hand. The worst are the 5-subject with the extra big rings.
2. Writing in a 3-ring binder
You have to do that thing where you fit your hand between the top two, then eventually have to pick it up and fit it in between the bottom two.
3. Only 1 gross lefty glove in gym class
The handsweat of a thousand lefties before you.
4. Only 2 pairs of the green lefty scissors in class, 3 lefty kids.
Scrambling through the scissors to find the ones with the green rubber handles, only to see they’re already all gone.
5. Ballpoint pens don’t work as well because you’re pushing, not pulling the ball
The ink will never flow as well for lefties, so our pens stop up more.
8. iPad Kindle app - left side is back page
This is really annoying - if you prefer to hold it in your left hand, you have to move your hand all the way to the other side to tap. On a real Kindle, page forward is on both sides, thankfully.
9. Driver’s cup holder is for the right hand
So you have to hold your cup with your right hand.
11. Dying sooner, so becoming a zombie sooner
Studies have shown lefties die up to 9 years sooner than righties. At least we’ll get to eat their brains.
12. These desks
College lecture hall desks with postage-stamp sizes desks. You have to twist your back and hold up your arm to use.
13. Measuring cups show you the stupid metric side
The cups/ounces side is for the righties. You have to do that thing where you twist your hole arm around to be able to read ounces.
15. Made for righties
Apparently you can get modified lefty controllers, but maybe you should just go outside.
16. Cord on the credit card machine pen never long enough
Annoying. Annoying. I’m annoyed.
18. For which someone invented THESE
The saddest thing is that all the lefties in the BuzzFeed office now want these. The indignity.

tiptopcashew 3 weeks ago1 & 2 - when you turn over the page right handed people have the same problem and lefties can write with ease!
7 - sit the other way round so you’re not bashing elbows
9 - not the case where the driver is in a country where they drive on the left hand side of the road (so the driver is on the right side of the vehicle); plus the passenger has to pick it up with their left hand even if they’re right handed.
10 - this is not really an issue; most people use both hands to type with, so it doesn’t matter whether you’re a lefty or righty when it comes to typing.
15 - how? You use both sides of the controller and therefore need both hands to use it.
16 - the cord stretches, and if right handed people can stretch the cord to the far side in order to start signing then so can left handed people!!! In essence, this list is completely flawed, as the majority of them affect both lefties and righties or have an easy solution to them. -

bradh14 3 weeks agoAs a lefty, I have answers to most of these. I don’t like to presume, but I’m going to guess that you’re not left handed. 1&2) The English language goes from left to right, which means that the left hand, on the left page, must push across the edge of the paper when starting a line. In a notebook this is doubly troublesome and leads to frequent paper cuts. A right handed person starts a line of text with his or her hand already supported by the notebook itself and pulls off the page when leaving it. 7) Sitting at the left end of a table is a common habit for lefties, but it is not always and option and, in social situations where the table is quite large, puts the leftie forever “at the end away from the middle of the conversation” 9) This one doesn’t bother me much, but, being from one of the majority “non-british commonweath” countries, it is still relevant. 10) The numeric keypad is quite often used for extended periods of data entry. 15) I don’t get it either. I don’t see this one as a problem. 16) “The cord stretches” Not on planet Earth it doesn’t. This one drives me nuts. One must pull the cable across the back of the writing tablet adding extra weight and stress to writing. Not a huge issue, but one I must always deal with when using my card.

My mom tried getting me to write with my hand hooked when I was about 8, after reading a “parenting a lefty” article, but I had been writing the “right handed” way up until then and switching was a no go. However, until now, I just thought grinding the pen/pencil into the page was just something I did and never attributed it to my leftiness… Eeen-ter-estink..

jamess72 4 weeks agoMetric uses the ten times table… adding zeroes. everything in tens. mm, Cm,M , ml, Cl, L, kB, MB GB…. 1, 10, 100 , 1000 etc… simple Imperial uses 1/32 , 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, fair enough but then it’s 12 inches to a foot, 3 feet to a yard, 22 yards to a chain, 10 chains to a furlong, 8 furlongs to a mile!! 1 Link is 7.92 inches or 66/100 of a foot!!!! 16 ounces, 14 pounds, 20 fluid ounces, 8 pints and so on and so on. It is simply manic…. The metric system makes on the spot calculations easier for everyone, giving a much easier representation of proportion. If you defend the imperial then you’re either a career tradesman or an idiot….

colinm20 4 weeks ago#3 #4 #7 #8 #9 #10 #15 All rather pointless to be honest. I’m ambidextrous and my girlfriend is left-handed - neither of us have complained about these things. #3 I’m sure people find right handed gloves in a similar state.
#4 Never had problems with using scissors on the wrong side, it just means measuring slightly off.
#7 Sit on the end of the table or space further, simple.
#8 Hold device with your right hand (easy even for a lefty) and use your left to swipe?
#9 You don’t have to be ambidextrous to use your right hand for drinking.
#10 Again, you don’t need to be ambidextrous for this and there are numbers for your left hand too.
#15 Never seen anyone complain about the layout of gamepads, they’re something you get used to regardless of your hand coordination over time. So yeah, I wont comment on literally everything but these are the ones that puzzled me the most. -

As a righty…writing on the back side of a page of paper in a spiral or 3-ring never hurt my right hand…no school ever supplied me with a baseball glove (brought our own) same with scissors. As for the rest, deal with it - two lefties in the family - deal with it. I don’t get 17 or 18….what is this?

JackAbug 4 weeks agoDepending on what arm position a lefty uses to write (the method depicted in #5 vs. the ‘classic’ hold-your-writing-hand-upside-down pose with the forearm across the top of the page) it’s common for many left-handed people to wind up with silvery graphite-pencil smearing a la #17 on the edge of the palm contiguous with the pinky finger. (If you can’t quite visualize this, and are right-handed, write some gibberish — or words if you’re feeling spunky — across a piece of paper from right to left, using a soft-lead pencil. You should wind up with some smudges on the part of your hand that follows the writing across the page.) #18 is apparently a product you can buy so that the dirty smudges get on your overpriced 20%-of-a-glove instead of your skin. Re: no school-supplied scissors… there were no art classes in your school system? Not even for the little kids?

Dollar-store gloves are $1/pair; “disposable” gloves tend to run about $8-12 for a box of 100-500, depending on materials and special features such as fingertip texturing and whether powder is included. Scissors not included with either option, BUT you get 4 bonus glove-fingers to use for all those other ‘if only I had a partial glove!’ situations. (Possibly also available at the As Seen On TV! store and/or late-night commercials, subject to substantial S&H and/or restocking fees.)

It’s just funny for lefties to see that other lefties feel their “pain.” We’re grown now so we know how to compensate but we did have to deal with spiral notebooks and 3-ring binders. We probably die sooner bc we have to deal with the right-handed world. :) -

I’m a lefty but i get along fine with righty and doing righty styled stuff…all except for writing…but for arabic language,the lefties win….its right to left…hahaha

#8: There is a setting on the iPad that can be switched to “Advance Both Margins,” which allows the user to tap left or right to advance forward (swipe to go back a page). It isn’t the default, but it is an anticipated need and as easy to customize as toggling a button.
