My Coachella Survival Guide

As my phone vibrates uncontrollably I gaze at it to see who is texting me a novel until I realize it is a group chat from all my friends. Oh, it’s that time of year again, Coachella.

I’m not sure how popular Coachella is in this neck of the woods but in the West Coast Coachella is everything. As you carpool with all your friends, the traffic to Indio is what your idea of California traffic is… times ten. But to be honest the road trip is one of my favorite parts. Looking like Penny Lane in the passenger side of your best friends car blasting sing-a-longs with the windows down will make you cherish the bumper to bumper traffic because you will look back on these memories and smile. You see, I can instantly get off topic and tell you my favorite parts of the music festival but I want you to grasp your own memories so instead I will give you a little California girl style tips for the best weekend of your life.

Step 1;

You are supposed to look like a homeless chic hippie so don’t over pack, trust me I am a 20-something-year-old-girl. I understand you need many options for outfit choices for the 2 days you will be there but girl, it doesn’t matter. My first year at Coachella I stuffed my closet in 3 bags, boy was that a bad idea. During Coachella, even if you have a set place to stay- usually about 2 of your friends crash your hotel room and you find yourself at the hotel room only for about 4 hours the entire time and most likely will wear the same outfit both days maybe change your shirt.

Step 2;

As cute as those little fringe bags will look with your rolling stones vintage tee and ripped Levis jean shorts, you’re going to need something bigger. I had the cutest handmade coin purse from India that I wore to Coachella one year and it couldn’t even fit my phone, which later miraculously disappeared after one too many PBRs and 4 after parties. There are plenty of cute bags that have a lot more room for things like, your phone, your bathing suit (because 99% of the time after the festival you wind up at a pool party) and that flask full of whiskey you decided to sneak in.

Step 3;

Once you think you are over accessorized, add a little more. One thing about being a hippie is always wearing way to many accessories; don’t ask me why because the whole concept seems a little contradicting. You know how you hear that LA is known to judge by what car you drive and New York judges you on your shoes, well in Indio they judge you on your accessories. A few must have accessories are rings, stacks of bracelets, a flower headband and a belt.
