28 Things People Who Study Mass Media In India Can Relate To

I've got 99 problems and they're literally all presentations.

    1. You never managed to wake up at 6 a.m. because that's when you went to bed.

    2. On the rare days when you reached college on time, the first lecture invariably got cancelled.

    3. And a cancelled presentation was a far bigger celebration than any festival.

    4. You learnt how to bargain by doing so with professors, convincing them to change submission dates.

    5. You went for days with little to no sleep, trying to finish a project.

    6. If you ever went to a friend's house to complete a project, you ended up doing everything else instead.

    7. You were on first name and udhari basis with the nearest xerox/printerwala.

    8. You could only hang out at coffee shops that have outlets to charge your laptop and free wi-fi.

    9. You stuck by the project group you were a part of in the first year until the last semester...

    10. Where you made all the hardcopies and the slides, and expected your groupmates to just show up on time.

    11. One person's class "notes" were passed around for everyone to study from. For all six semesters.

    12. Along with the photos you and everyone else took of the blackboard.

    13. You spent more time attending college fests than classes.

    14. While your other friends were feeling sleepy in their lectures, you were busy "understanding cinema".

    15. And while they were submitting handwritten assignments, you faced your handwriting (i.e. illegible scribbling) only during exams.

    16. You've used "Presentation banani hai" as an excuse to get out of almost everything from getting groceries to family functions.

    17. "Industrial Visits" mean college trips that involve all sorts of tomfoolery, and no actual visiting of industries.

    18. You learnt so many cool subjects like photography, copywriting, brand building, media buying, public relations, it got you confused about what you really wanted to do.

    19. Which has also made you a "jack of all trades but master of none."

    20. You have a hard time explaining your course and your future to your relatives.

    21. Especially explaining that mass media leaves you career options besides journalism.

    22. It took you a while to make them understand that "Advertising" doesn't mean acting in advertisements.

    23. And "Copywriting" doesn't mean getting paid to copy.

    24. When people accused you of being a slacker for studying such an easy course, it made your blood boil.

    25. (But deep down you know they're right, and you pat yourself on the back for making the best decision ever.)

    26. You had young industry professionals as professors... And occasionally had crushes on them.

    27. More than the subjects itself, you learnt important skills such as multitasking and last-minute-working and bullshitting.

    28. And you know in your heart that if you could, you'd do college all over again.
