The article is correct. If the lighting in the background of the picture is the correct natural lighting when the photo was shot, the illumination of the figures in the foreground isn’t natural. This has to be more than one image layered to create the shot. The standards of photojounalism are that you don’t alter the image that way. It is acceptable in art photography, not in journalism where the picture is intended to convey an image as it was captured ataspecific moment in time for the purpose of diseminating information. If you build the image, the you might as well fake the story too.
