1. Parties that insist on sitting at the only dirty table in the restaurant.

2. Misbehaving Kids

We know when you and your child leave it will look like a bomb of half eaten cheerios and moist crumbles went off and we’ll have to clean that up. So, please don’t let them scream continuously, run around, or play with sugar packets. Your minions are adorable, but keep them in line.

3. When customers surrender basic toddler manners at the door.

4. Hot Tea.

I’ve got to say, I love hot tea. I understand why someone would want to order it. Yet, for some reason most restaurants haven’t found a way to streamline this toasty beverage. It makes for a very slow process and the last thing a waiter wants is to be slow, for your benefit and theirs.

5. When you repeatedly have to ask the customer what they said because they insist on whispering their order.

Chances are if the waiter can’t hear you after three attempts, your order may be in jeopardy of becoming an educated guess.

6. Substitutions

I’m talking not-even-remotely-on-the-menu substitutions. That slows down the kitchen and makes the cooks angry. I’d rather deal with a customer’s wrath than my chef’s. Not to mention there may be significant price changes the computer system won’t accommodate.

7. When you ask your table a question and no one answers.

8. When customers leave an outlandish suggestion on a comment card or credit card receipt.

I've had a customer actually recommend Starbucks coffee over the specially made blend that is exclusive to the restaurant where I work. Her credentials were, "I'm from Seattle and I know coffee."

9. The customers that believe it's okay to sit down ten minutes before closing time.

I'm required to act happy about you being there, but unless you can order and eat within that ten-minute deadline, it is not okay to come in. Servers have lives too and unless you plan on tipping me at least twenty bucks, I’d rather go home and watch Game of Thrones.
