*Based on a true story. (Sort of a quick explanation: I was homeschooled through Middle School. Long story short, nervous breakdown leading to social phobia. I’m better now. None of these were ever true for me. However, I knew several other homeschooled kids, and they were worse than Homeschool Harold. Many were close-minded, knew nothing of science except “God did it!”, etc. I had one conversation with one of them, who at the time was ~14 years old. I heard that he liked Star Wars, so I was telling him about how I read a comic saying that Boba Fett had a daughter. Through the course of the conversation, I discovered two things about the kid:
1: He had yet to be taught about sex, still believing in the stork.
2: He thought it was physically impossible to have a child out of wedlock. As in, the stork won’t bring you a child unless you were married. Never talked to him again.)

Oh, and one more thing. I live in Virginia, and there is a law saying that your child has to take some form of standardized test in order to prove to the state that you are teaching the bare minimum. However, there’s a loophole. You can claim that you are homeschooling your child for “religious differences”. That’s it. No explanation needed. Your child doesn’t have to do any tests, and the state can’t really do anything about it. In other words, you could get away with homeschooling about absolutely anything or nothing. I’m not familiar with the laws in other states, so I don’t know if the religious loophole is the norm or not. However, I’ve always found it ridiculous. There are some normal people who are homeschooled. Honestly, with a good parent and good material, it can be in some ways even better than public school. One on one teaching is constantly more efficient. Personally, I moved at a faster pace than in public school. I went through much of the same material faster, was able to slow down when I needed to, etc. The only problem is that it’s often easy to exploit the system, and that for the time being, the main people homeschooling their children are crazy, overprotective parents. That stigma attached to homeschooling is why I rarely speak about it. (This being the exception.) So, yea, an even longer explanation on an already long explanation.
