Kohl's Caught Selling Real Raccoon Dog Fur As Fake Fur

Again. UPDATE: As of 4:12 pm on 9/23/2014 the jacket has been removed from the Kohl's website.

Discount department store Kohl's is in trouble today after it was discovered that some of the products it labeled as "fake fur" were actually made from real fur.

The product in question? A fur-hooded coat from R&O.

While the product details on Kohl's site say that the fur is fake, the inner label actually says the fur is made from raccoon dog.

    Here's the conflicting inner tag.

And this is what a raccoon dog actually looks like.

The parka is problematic, not simply because it misrepresents itself as an animal-free product, but also because selling animal fur as “faux fur” is a violation of the Federal Trade Commission Act.

This isn't Kohl's first faux fur mislabeling gaffe.

In 2013, the HSUS caught the company labeling Nicole Lee Fabiola bags as faux fur when they had actually been made with rabbit fur.

Kohl's no longer sells the bags, but the Humane Society still isn't happy with them.

BuzzFeed has reached out to Kohl's for comment.

The jacket has been removed from the Kohl's website.

    Kohl's released the following statement:

Kohl's Statement on R&O Men's Parka With Fur Trim

Kohl's standard vendor terms require that all merchandise must be free of any real animal fur unless expressly authorized in writing by Kohl's. No such authorization was given here. Once aware that the product was made with real fur, Kohl's immediately removed the product from our website.

The parkas in question were sold online only and were not exclusive to Kohl's. Kohl's has never held these items in our inventories, as they are directly shipped from the vendor to customers. Fewer than 100 of these parkas have been purchased through Kohl's.

We apologize to our customers who would not have otherwise purchased these parkas. Kohl's will honor returns, no questions asked, for any customers who no longer wish to keep them.
