George RR Martin tells who would win in a series of match-ups between his own characters and those from "Lord of the Rings." I just had a nerdgasm...

Aragorn vs. Jamie Lannister

Winner: Lannister

Well, there is something about having earned the nickname Kingslayer that instantly vaults a person to formidable opponent status. This is what Jaime Lannister from Game of Thrones brings to the table. On the other hand, Aragorn also knows his way around a punctured chest cavity.

(START SPOILER ALERT)

Still here? Okay, Martin stipulates that before Jaime Lannister lost some important appendages, he was one of the greatest swordsman in the history of Westeros, and would clearly have beaten Aragorn.

(END SPOILER ALERT)

Which is why Jaime Lannister would win this battle.

Smaug vs. Balerion

Winner: Smaug.

Dueling dragons are what nerd dreams are made of, making this battle especially epic. Since Tolkien’s Smaug is probably the smarter of the two, and a real chatterbox, Martin gives him the edge over the larger Balerion.

Saruman vs. Melisandre

Winner: Saruman

While both of these characters are powerful and can put a telekinetic ass-whooping on others, Game of Thrones' Melisandre is a priestess, while Saruman is a true wizard. Advantage: Saruman.

Wargs vs. Direwolves

Winner: Wargs.

Since wargs are evil hybrid wolves in Tolkien’s tales, they could probably make short work of the direwolves, who seem to be far less clever animals.

Ice vs. Glamdring

Winner: Ice.

Although Glamdring did glow whenever orcs were around in Lord of the Rings, alerting its handler to be on guard, the sword didn’t have any magical properties that made it any deadlier. When you put that against valyrian steel, you get embarrassed. Ice would be the winner here.

*I would freaking pay to have this battle done!! "Death Battle" guys, please make this happen!!!

Frodo Vs. Tyrion Lannister

Winner: Tyrion Lannister.

Here, Martin is emphatic in his choice. The hobbit who carried the ring all the way to Mordor wouldn’t stand a chance against Game of Thrones' diminutive warrior Tyrion Lannister.

Nazgul vs. White Walkers

Winner: Nazgul.

White Walkers are quite frightening, especially because they foretell that WINTER IS COMING, but on the other hand, they lack the wings of Lord of the Rings’ Nazgul, a/k/a the ring wraiths, who Martin picks to win this battle.

Cave Troll vs. Mag the Mighty

Winner: Cave Troll.

As mighty as Mag is, Lord of the Rings’ Cave troll is much bigger and would likely dispatch this opponent with extreme prejudice.

Gimli Vs. The Mountain

Winner: Gimli.

While he may be a big mountain of a man, hence the nickname, Game of Thrones' The Mountain might fall under a series of brutal ax-blows inflicted by the dwarf Gimli. Martin gives the little guy the edge here.

Ned Stark vs. Boromir

Winner: Female audiences (and Boromir).

What these two characters have in common is that they are both played by Sean Bean. The disparity between them lies in the fact that Bean’s Lord of the Rings character, Boromir, is an actual warrior, whereas his Game of Thrones counterpart is really more of a statesman.
