This Is The First Recorded Use Of #Selfie On Instagram

Taken Jan. 16, 2011. Like it or not, “selfie” is Oxford Dictionaries’ international word of the year.

According to Instagram, Jennifer Lee, a life and business coach in Oakland, was the first user on the app to tag her photo as a “selfie.” (She wasn’t, of course, the first user to post a selfie.)

The photo was taken on Jan. 16, 2011, and tagged in the comments on Jan. 27, at 2:18 p.m. ET — the same day Instagram introduced hashtags. The company said more than 57 million Instagrams have been tagged #selfie since.
