"Sure" Is Not Sexual Consent, According To Canadian Student Campaign

"If it's not loud and clear, it's not consent. It's sexual assault."

This is an advertisement from More Than Yes, a consent education campaign by a group of Nova Scotia students.

From the campaign website:

Real consent is mutual and sure. It is not muted, frail, hesitant, or afraid. It is never uncertain, assumed, or silent.

Consent cannot be gained through manipulation, intimidation, or threatening behaviour. A person who is intoxicated with alcohol or drugs can't give consent. Consent cannot be given by a person who is passed out or asleep. Consent must be continuous and can be withdrawn at any time during sex.

The advertisements are reportedly hanging on multiple college campuses in Nova Scotia. In a statement, Students NS's executive director said the ads aim to promote "everyone's responsibility to receive clear consent."

StudentsNS recently published a report finding 90-95% of sexual assaults at six regional universities occurred between acquaintances.
