    Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was sentenced four years in prison Friday after being convicted of tax evasion.

    Berlusconi has been in and out of courtrooms for months, on trial for various suspected wrongdoings — including paying for sex with a minor — but this is his first conviction.

    The longtime Italian leader is expected to appeal the ruling, which means that he may not serve time at all — the statute of limitations is set to expire in 2013, the AP reports.

    Berlusconi's tax fraud conviction is related to his company Mediaset's attempts to buy the rights to broadcast American movies through offshore companies.
