Reuters Hacked With False Reports From Syria

One story claimed that the rebel Free Syrian Army was withdrawing after 1,000 of its soldiers were killed and 1,500 were arrested. No word yet on who’s behind the hack.

On Friday, Reuters issued a series of tweets informing readers that the site had been compromised with multiple false reports, published with the bylines of real Reuters journalists.

Reuters.com was a target of a hack on Friday. Our blogging platform was compromised... (1/2)

...and fabricated blog posts were falsely attributed to several Reuters journalists. We are working to address the problem. (2/2)

A false blog posting, purporting to carry an interview with the head of the Free Syrian Army Riad al-Asaad... (1/3)

... was illegally posted on a Reuters journalist's blog page on reuters.com on Friday. (2/3)

Reuters did not carry out such an interview and the posting has been deleted. (3/3)
