Ryan Lanza is not now thought to have been the shooter, and law enforcement authorities have said they confused the two brothers’ names in early statements to CNN and other outlets on whom our item relied. Authorities now say they confused the brothers because Ryan Lanza’s identification was found on Adam Lanza’s body.

ssb062000 6 months agoMany sociologists have suggested that the WORST possible thing we, as a society, can do after events such as this one are Sensationalize, post pictures, make it the #1 news story for weeks, focus on the suspect, etc. It’s not about praying it away, it’s not necessarily even about being considerate to the families affected, it’s not about pretending it didn’t happen. It’s about not allowing these events to become media spectacles, spotlights on now-celebrity killers, and overly sensationalized examples of how troubled individuals who think nobody cares, listens, etc. can follow suite. You want to know what he looks like? You want to know the exact step by step detail of the event? His personal/medical history? What might have lead him to do it? What he was wearing? How he feels about it? Where the guns came from? TOO BAD. You’re just fueling the fire that will eventually lead to another similar event. What value do these things really have to you? Are you going to take the aggregate knowledge from cataloging these traits and do something worthwhile? Nope, you’re not. It’s gossip. And as a society we need to grow out of it.

I don’t think this is glorifying a murderer by putting his picture up. I WANT to know WHO did this and WHY rather than just making him out to be a supernatural boogieman. The only way we can prevent these things from happening again is with information. Knowing the signs of how this happened and how to look out for them.
