A Grim Reminder That Military Women Have Already Been Fighting And Dying

One hundred forty-six women have died in uniform since 2001, long before the ban was lifted Wednesday. Here are their names.

I know, right? Now tell your friends!

Holly McGeogh is my Cousin. 19 years old & died serving in Iraq. All these ladies gave all they had. Thanks for posting this. Women can be a Marine, a soldier, a lady flies our President in the helicopter past few years. I don’t see any problem with them on the front lines if that is what they want to do. Females are not weak by any means. God bless these American Heroes.

I don’t think it’s all about whether it not a woman is string enough physically to do things men in combat do. My hubby is a Marine and some of the men he works with are smaller than a lot of women I know. There are other things that have been considered.  If a 2 males and 1 female are in combat together and the female is injured along with one of the males, who do you think the 2nd make will go after first? If a few females are deployed with 100 plus males, who are lonely and horny, there is a sexual assault case waiting to happen. There is also a hygiene issue. My hubby did not shower or clean with more than a dirty river and baby wipes for over 5 months. It’s a lot different for women. We gave to keep that c area clean or things get infected. I’m all for women having equal rights, being a woman myself, but I also like to see all sides if the story. Hopefully many woman will be able to succeed on the front lines.

Wait wait wait. So you’re saying that… Women shouldn’t be on the front lines? I mean, that’s what it looks like you’re saying.
So just so it’s all squared away:
        1. If the hypothetical situation arises in which 1 man and 1 woman are injured in combat (then) the third male solider will immediately help his female peer?… Based on what? Gender stereotypes that don’t necessarily exist in combat situations? Is your scenario trying to play on ‘helpless female’ cliches that first gave rise to the ban in the first place?
        2. Just because men in combat situations are either lonely or horny doesn’t give them permission to assault their female peers (who I might add, are also equal in risking their lives for the US) so… I guess in rebuttal I’d have to say, it’s not a sexual assault waiting to happen JUST because women are allowed on the front lines. It becomes an assault when a man doesn’t respect other women and takes advantage of them. The military has cases like that happen and it wasn’t because men were lonely and horny— it was because they acted on impulse and without regard to their peer. Sexual assault isn’t unique to combat situations…
And your logic stands that if we didn’t have women on the front lines then sexual assault wouldn’t occur? How about, let’s put women on the front lines and tell their male peers to keep it in their pants. POOF! No sexual assault. You’re indirectly blaming women for being in those situations to leave themselves ‘vulnerable’ to assault BY THEIR OWN COUNTRYMEN.
        3. … Women shouldn’t be in combat because we all need to keep our vagina clean?… Are you serious right now?

The fact that women were ever banned from front-line combat roles is some fucking bullshit. Believe it or not, most women are physically capable of conducting themselves normally even if they’re menstruating or something. No one, not even men, know what the emotional or psychological realities of the front lines are. If men were somehow naturally more capable of dealing with it, we wouldn’t see so many horrible military suicides. If a woman is willing to sign up for the army, go through training, and have herself shipped overseas to a warzone, there’s no reason to believe she’s not as brave or capable as any other combat soldier.

      • kimwashere92 3 months ago

        well said.

      • Glenn Century 3 months ago

It’s not psychological, it’s just nature. Men are stronger. I realize that this post will offend the feminists, but it’s science. Sorry.

      • RoccOn16v 3 months ago

There are physical reasons to believe a woman is less capable. They simply aren’t as able to carry the same weights as men. When a soldier goes down, a female (unless in extraordinary condition) will be less capable of recovering a fellow soldier than a male, this just boils down to anatomy. I’m sorry, but that’s a fact. You’ll say well women will just be exceptional, but exceptional is such due to the fact that it’s statistically incredibly rare. I understand why they’re in, but I’m not necessarily in favor of it. Most of you cheerleading this have no idea what the military is or what is done within it. Just remember sometimes “discrimination” is for the best safety interests of ALL involved (soldiers regardless of sex).

Your entire statement, top to bottom can be torn apart by the fact that there are female SWAT team member, female Firefighters, female first responders, female combatants IN OTHER armies (have you seen Israeli female soldiers? Tell HER she can do what a man can on the field) The amount of physical stamina it takes to go to through boot camp more than proves most girls are fit for the front lines. And maybe if we had more girls out there, we wouldn’t be so quick to send our boys AND girls overseas.
