I had a different impression of these countries prior to visiting Egypt. For example when I saw scenes like this in the past I thought that the people were completely insane, and they are to a point, but I’ll say this much, the unemployment in these countries is freakishly high and so the young people out burning stuff were probably just looking to do something destructive because they’re really pissed off in general. I think that’s part of the old argument that the tyrannical regimes there used to make to the West, “our people are nuts we have to rule them with an iron fist”, translation: our economy is a giant shit sandwich. So anyway, the point is, these people are nuts for burning stuff but I sort of doubt that they’re any more nuts than kids who torch cars when their college wins a game because the riot police show up, or loot when some cop shoots someone. But I could be wrong. PS. KFC and Hardees are straight up nasty and full of antibiotics.
We pleaded with them to stop the violence but instead they decided to … DOUBLE DOWN™.
