  • Cheap Brews of the USA

Salon.com’s survey of cheap local beers across the country. Lurking in the shadows of behemoths Miller, Coors, and Bud, are America’s trusty regional breweries. Like Pabst, which actually owns a vast majority of these local stand-by’s, these beers survive on their cheap and pared-down, full-flavored charm…not to mention they all have pretty awesome labels. • Invisibility Cloak

Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak is closer to being realized than you think. Scientists have developed what they are calling a “metamaterial,” a three-dimensional fabric that can reverse the natural direction of light. While still in its early stages of development, researchers say that the material could very well yield the world’s first actual (i.e. not in a sci-fi novel) invisibility cloak. Now would be a good time to start recording those “fly on the wall” fantasies. Read More ›

  • Doggyspace.com

Doggyspace.com is Facebook for dogs. I’ve always found pet zealots a little…how do you say…creepy? • 5 Greatest Things Ever Accomplished While High

Headline says it all. One caveat: The accomplishment must be “considered great by people who could pass a field sobriety test,” unjustly leaving music out of the question (Beatles?). Regardless, some pretty amazing things have been accomplished under the influence…Moses and ‘shrooms? Check it out. Read More ›

  • Bullet-Proof Bra

Bullet-resistant bras are the German Police Force’s latest fashion item. • Porn Industry Combats Piracy

Porn industry leaders team up to form PAK, a group dedicated to litigating porn pirates (and yes, that’s the cover to the award-winning pornographic film, Pirates, to the left). The group expects to target increasingly popular “Tube” websites - Websites that are modeled after YouTube but specialize in smut. While the group has certainly taken an aggressive stance, the RIAA has been trying to do the same thing with music thieves for years, but obviously to little success. That said, porn-lovers: keep on keepin’ on. Read More ›

  • Diamonds in the Rough

Diamonds in the Rough is a documentary that tells the inspiring story of the Ugandan hip-hop scene. Raw and unadulterated, the film demonstrates the ability of hip-hop to spread messages of hope and change against the odds. Contrasted against the bloated commercialism of the US music industry, the film reminds us that music can actually mean something. Enjoy the trailer. Watch Video ›

  • Teens In Tech

15 year old tech nerd/entrepreneur, Daniel Brusilovsky, launches start-up for teenagers interested in new media. The site is a response to what Brusilovsky believes to be a shortage of websites that provide safe, easy outlets for teens to share new media content. While the site apparently lacks much in the way of new code, Brusilovsky has garnered some impressive backing and is incredibly enthusiastic about the project. And just look at that face. Is that not a perfect portrait of web success? Read More ›

  • World’s Smallest Snake

The Barbados threadsnake is the smallest snake in the world. The recently discovered species is as thin as a spaghetti noodle and measures just 3.9 inches long. Because of its small size, it is susceptible to attacks from anything ranging from centipedes to spiders…not to mention it’s blind. I think I’d be hard-pressed to come up with an animal that’s more defenseless than this one. View Image ›

  • Tree Shrew Loves Booze

The pen-tailed tree shrew (yes that guy over to the left) loves to booze, but can’t get drunk. Let me clarify: The nectar of choice for this little critter has an alcohol content slightly less than that of beer. Scientists observe that even though this shrew consumes levels of alcohol that would intoxicate humans, it does not exhibit any signs of inebriation. Sounds to me like the perfect frat house pet.
