Tom McIntyre 3 months agoEven great writers fail with commas. Evelyn Waugh,irascibly particular about punctuation, in the Listener (26 February 1936): “It is important that readers of the Listener, who lack the time and inclination for historical reading, should be left with the impression …” His adjective clause describes all Listener readers. Without commas it would, as he intended, distinguish one particular group.
