I thought the classic of the genre was to use clear packing tape to strap the envelope to a brick.

did this for years (without the protest materials or the wood shim - which is a cool idea). banks that spend more in postage are only going to pass that expense on to existing customers (without a meeting). so i contacted the direct mail assn and had my name removed from mailing lists. may not send a message, but does cut down the carbon footprint and paper waste.
